National City, California
Capuzzi Consulting Group staff served as Project Manager (Matt Capuzzi) for this pedestrian connection project in the heart of National City. In the existing condition, National City Boulevard had pedestrian crossings at signalized intersections at 12th Street and 16th Street. However, the new National City Library is at 14th Street on the east side of National City Boulevard. This made for an inconvenient trip for residents living on the west side of National City Boulevard wanting to walk to the library. The project implemented pedestrian improvements at the intersection of National City Boulevard and 14th Street to enhance the connection to the library and Kimball Park. The improvements included curb extensions, RRFBs, high-visibility continental crosswalks, and a pedestrian refuge island.
