National City, California
Capuzzi Consulting Group staff served as Project Manager (Matt Capuzzi) and lead Project Engineer (Forrest Baker) on this innovative bicycle enhancement project that now provides a safe, comfortable bicycle connection between the cities of National City and Chula Vista. The project implemented one-way separated bike lanes on National City Boulevard from W. 33rd Street to C Street and two-way separated bike lanes on W. 33rd Street from National City Boulevard to the entrance to the Sweetwater River Trail. A large portion of the project was within Caltrans right-of-way, which required a Caltrans encroachment permit through the QMAP process. The project includes an innovative two-stage left turn queue box at the SR-54 WB off-ramp to National City Boulevard, allowing cyclists to cross over from the one-way separated bike lane on National City Boulevard to the two-way separated bike lanes on W. 33rd Street.
