North Park - Mid-City
Bikeways

San Diego, California

Project summary

Capuzzi Consulting Group staff served as Project Manager (Matt Capuzzi) for the preliminary engineering and environmental phase for the North Park -Mid-City Bikeways. The project consisted of seven (7) low-stress urban bikeway segments in San Diego’s urban core: Georgia-Meade, Monroe, Howard, Orange, University, Robinson, and Landis.  The corridors were designed with a “bike boulevard” traffic calming approach to enhance the safety and comfort for users of all ages and abilities. Collectively, the seven segments will provide approximately 14 miles of bicycle boulevards, buffered bike lanes, and separated bikeways. Design features included mini-roundabouts, neighborhood traffic circles, raised crosswalks, an elevated shared-use path, bend-outs, curb extensions, bus stop islands, a protected intersection, and streetscape enhancements. Tasks included value engineering, concept plan development, an MND for the Robinson Bikeway, and traffic studies. The project team worked in close coordination with SANDAG on an extensive public outreach effort. This outreach included providing support at Community Planning Group meetings and extensive support for open house events.
