South Bay Rapid

Chula Vista, California

Project summary

East Palomor Street - Segment 1
Capuzzi Consulting group staff served as Project Manager (Matt Capuzzi) for the East Palomar Segment of the South Bay Rapid Line, a landmark project for the San Diego region. The project incorporated a 24-foot-wide Bus Only Guideway into the median of East Palomar Street from Oleander Avenue to Eastlake Parkway in the City of Chula Vista. This 4-mile segment of guideway included two median BRT stations as well as median landscape and lighting improvements. The BRT stations included custom bus shelters, next bus arrival signs, benches, security cameras, bike lockers, PCIDs, and ticket vending machines.  The western half of this segment required roadway widening along both sides of East Palomar Street to accommodate the widened median (the east half has a wide existing median to accommodate the guideway). The conceptual design development of the two-mile, western segment of the project focused on Complete Streets concepts to enhance the pedestrian and bicycle experience along the corridor by incorporating landscape buffers, wide sidewalks, median pedestrian refuge islands, and bicycle facility enhancements.

Millenia Rapid Station
Capuzzi Consulting group staff served as Project Manager (Matt Capuzzi) for the South Bay Rapid Station within the private development, Millenia, in eastern Chula Vista. This station was designed to match the design features of the South Bay Rapid stations on East Palomar Street.  Close coordination with the Developer and Architect was required for a seamless interface between the station and the surrounding development.
